On-line Saddlebred Auction Begins: Ryder Cup Package, Valuables, Collectibles, Trips and Vacations Offered, and More!

The American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) announced that its annual auction to benefit ASHA Youth Programs and Scholarships began on Friday, August 1 and continues through 9 p.m. eastern time on Sunday, August 10 through EBay and Missionfish.

The new on-line auction, available at www.asha.net/auction08 -- the most extensive ever offered by ASHA for the Saddlebred world, replaces its traditional silent auction previously held during the Kentucky State Fair at the Executive West Hotel; remodeling underway at the hotel prevented its use this year.

“On balance, we are really excited at the opportunities the situation this year presented us,” said Brenda Newell, senior program administrator, who serves the ASHA membership and its volunteer leadership for its youth and other fund-raising programs.  “While we know this is a new event, and new technology for many of our members, it’s also great to be able to offer specially selected items to a much larger, potentially worldwide audience, most of which couldn’t possibly be expected to come to the in-person auction.  So maybe we will be able to interest a truly worldwide group in these Saddlebred valuables and other items now, and raise even more funds for our youth.”

Newell said it is difficult to say which of the more than 30 items will prove to get the most attention, since so many are unique and appeal to different tastes. Trips, concert tickets, Ryder Cup golf matches, golf cart rental at the World Championships, rare collectibles and artwork are included in the auction.

To register and bid, once the auction is underway, visit www.asha.net/auction08. For technical questions, contact Will Wood, Technology Manager, at email: w.wood@asha.net  For questions about particular items on offer, contact Brenda Newell, at email: b.newell@asha.net
